Cut Flower Calendula Ivory Princess Seedling Pack

Sale price$35.00
Calendula Ivory Princess:

Calendula officinalis

Calendula is a wonderful winter cut flower - it is super quick to come into flower, we would expect these seedlings to be flowering within around 6 weeks of planting. They will add a beautiful touch of colour to the winter garden.

I was amazed at just how long Calendula lasts in the vase - perfect for bringing a bit of sunshine inside - the first picture is taken at harvest, the second picture after 10 days in a vase!!

Ivory Princess is the most beautiful buttery yellow contrasted with a dark mahogany centre, and a mix of fully double and single blooms.

Edible petals and a wonderful companion plant in the cutting patch or veggie garden. Keep deadheaded for continual blooms, and easy to save seeds for next season.

Please note while we have successfully grown calendula through the winter in our Marlborough climate with frosts down to -1, we would recommend that those further south may need to provide frost protection until plants are established.

Pack of 6 plants standard shipping included. If you are rural, please select the rural option at checkout to avoid delays in processing your order

Height: 30cm+

Spacing: 15-20cm

Harvest: Similar to strawflowers and zinnias, a firm stem in the wiggle test will tell you if your calendula is ready to pick! wait for the blooms to fully open. Cut deep into the plant to encourage more blooms, and strip off any wilty side shoots.

Vase life: 7-10 days

All our seedlings are grown in a custom cut flower mix which contains Trichoderma to assist in healthy root development and resistance to root pathogens. To give your seedlings the best start in your garden we recommend soaking them in a weak seaweed feed (or one of our "Seedling Shots") before planting.

We are proud to be partnering with Sustaina Grow to package our seedlings in a wool wrap that maintains moisture and protects the seedlings in transit. On arrival, take your plants out of the box and give them a good drink of water - you can leave them wrapped in the wool to do this! When you're ready to plant or pot on you can unwrap the seedlings, but they will happily spend a couple of days in their wool blanket before planting.

This wool liner makes a wonderful mulch mat that can be used with your seedlings or around any plant in your garden. Everything apart from labels (which we hope you'll use in the garden and time and time again) and stickers are compostable, in an effort to keep our shipping sustainable for the environment.
