Cut Flower Matricaria Seedling Pack

Sale price$35.00
Matricaria :

Tanacetum parthenium

Cut Flower Matricaria/Feverfew seedlings, grown in Marlborough by Gray Floral, shipping NZ wide.

Matricaria (also known as feverfew) is one of the true workhorses in the cutting garden. One of the happiest flowers in the patch, it's dainty sprays of daisy like flowers bring joy to the garden and the vase. Best planted in autumn, as the flowering is triggered by long days, you can expect two full flushes of harvests in spring and summer, and depending on your climate you may find the odd stem all year round. A shortlived perennial, and gentle self sower, great for the front - mid border, and one of the best fillers for bouquets. Cut back hard in late autumn to prepare for the next spring flush.

Snowball is the sweetest little button variety of matricaria, creamy with yellow centres. Vegmo single is the ultimate little daisy, with sunshine yellow centre. The perfect choice for spring and summer filler flowers!

NOTES ON GROWING

Height: 80cm

Spacing: 20cm if growing as an annual, 30cm if leaving to perennialise.

Harvest: Best to pick when at least half of the flowers in the spray are open - any unopened buds have a tendancy to wilt. Strip foliage right up to where the spray starts, and make sure to condition fully in water before arranging. If stems are looking wimpy after conditioning then a 10 second dip in near boiling water before back to cold should perk them back up.

Vase life: 10-14 days

All our seedlings are grown in a custom cut flower mix which contains Trichoderma to assist in healthy root development and resistance to root pathogens. To give your seedlings the best start in your garden we recommend soaking them in a weak seaweed feed (or one of our "Seedling Shots") before planting.

We wrap our seedlings bareroot in newspaper to maintain moisture and pack them with utmost care. We recommend if you're not ready to plant them immediately that you do pot them up until it's time for them to go in the garden, and be sure to give them a good water on arrival.

We are proud to be partnering with Sustaina Grow to package our seedlings in a wool outer that maintains moisture and protects the seedlings in transit. This wool liner makes a wonderful mulch mat that can be used with your seedlings or around any plant in your garden. Everything apart from labels (which we hope you'll use in the garden and time and time again) and stickers are compostable, in an effort to keep our shipping sustainable for the environment.
