Cut Flower Rat Tail Statice Seedling Pack
Limonium suworoii
Cut Flower Rat Tail Statice seedlings, grown in Marlborough by Gray Floral, shipping NZ wide.
Easily the worst name given to a brilliant flower, but despite the name this is one of the standout flowers we grew last year. Fun to grow, fun to arrange with and a striking feature in the garden. Spires of pink that are great fresh or dried, and a much softer foliage than traditional statice.
Rat tail doesn't love wet feet, and appreciates a feed, you can also plant tighter than other statice. While we have overwintered Rat Tail in our climate, we would caution that further south of Christchurch you may want to cover during harder frosts and certainly for snow. For those further north you can treat as a hardy annual.
When overwintering statice you can expect the plants to throw some purple shades in the leaves while they hunker down through the colder weather, but when it warms up in spring they'll come away beautifully.

NOTES ON GROWING
Height: 40cm+
Spacing: 20-25cm
Harvest: Rat Tail needs to be fully mature before harvest or it does tend to wilt. Ensure the florests have opened all the way up the stem before picking. You can use a boiling water sear for 10 seconds to revive sad stems if harvest hasn't been bang on. Stems can be hung upside down in a dark ventilated space for drying.
Vase life: 7 days fresh, or everlasting dried
All our seedlings are grown in a custom cut flower mix which contains Trichoderma to assist in healthy root development and resistance to root pathogens. To give your seedlings the best start in your garden we recommend soaking them in a weak seaweed feed (or one of our "Seedling Shots") before planting.
We are proud to be partnering with Sustaina Grow to package our seedlings in a wool wrap that maintains moisture and protects the seedlings in transit. On arrival, take your plants out of the box and give them a good drink of water - you can leave them wrapped in the wool to do this! When you're ready to plant or pot on you can unwrap the seedlings, but they will happily spend a couple of days in their wool blanket before planting.
This wool liner makes a wonderful mulch mat that can be used with your seedlings or around any plant in your garden. Everything apart from labels (which we hope you'll use in the garden and time and time again) and stickers are compostable, in an effort to keep our shipping sustainable for the environment.
